Care After Planting

Watering

Deep water 2–3×/week for the first season. Once established, very drought-tolerant — supplemental water only during extreme drought.

Soil & Fertilizer

Thrives in any soil type including SA’s alkaline clay and limestone. No amendments needed. Light fertilization in spring after year 1.

Pruning

Structural pruning when young to develop a good canopy shape. Once mature, minimal pruning needed. Best done in late winter.

Best Planting Time

October through March is ideal. Fall planting gives roots time to establish before summer heat.
